St Pius V


He was born in 1504 as Antonio Ghislieri at Bosco in the Duchy of Milan (now Bosco Marengo in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont), Italy. At the age of fourteen he entered the Dominican Order taking the name Michele. He was ordained a Dominican priest.

Pope Pius V, whose pontificate was from 1566 - 72, implemented the reforms of the Council of Trent; promulgated the Roman Catechism, the Roman Missal, and Roman Breviary used until Vatican II. He died on May 1st, 1572.
