14th Station PDF Print E-mail

By the cross with thee to stay,

There with thee to weep and pray,

Is all I ask with thee to give.

Fourteenth Station
Jesus is laid in the tomb.

Invocation
V. We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R. Because by Your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

"Joseph . . . went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. He took it down . . . and laid it in a rock-hewn tomb where no one had yet been laid." Luke 23: 51-53

The rolling of the stone seemed to be the end of a truly heroic life, but faith assures us that it was but the end of one chapter, to be followed by the glorious resurrection of Christ, and the fulfilment of His promise of triumph over sin and death.

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, may your death and resurrection be a source of hope and consolation to us all in our own moments of darkness and sorrow.

I love You, Jesus;  I love You above all things;
I repent with my whole heart of having offended You.
Never permit me to separate myself from You again.
Grant that I may love You always;
and then do with me what You will.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father

Responsory
V. Have mercy on us, O Lord.
R. Have mercy on us.
