Relics in the Diocese of Meath Print

Second Visit of the Relics of St Thérèse.

The relics of  St.Thérèse of Lisieux were in the diocese of Meath on Wednesday 8th April 2009, in the Parish Church of St. Patrick and St. Seachnall, Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, and through the night in a night vigil.

This second tour of Ireland went to many churches not previously visited during the last visit in 2001, and culminated in the St.Thérèse National Day at Knock on Monday 4th May, which was a public holiday.

Hundreds of people had gathered at the Church to await and venerate the relics of Thérèse, which arrived promptly at 2pm. Fr. Joseph Clavin PP and Fr. James Crofton CC officiated at the opening prayer ceremony.

St.Thérèse, Patron Saint of Mission, had come to Ireland at a time of difficulty, uncertainty, stress and fear for many people. The theme of the visit was taken from a poem of  St.Thérèse called 'Living on Love'  in which she talks about her own life - sowing peace and joy in every heart.

Nearing the conclusion of the visit to Ireland, the relics were present for St.Thérèse National Day at Knock on Monday 4th May. His Excellency Archbishop Thomas White, D.D., DCL., Apostolic Nuncio led a solemn concelebrated Mass at 3.00pm in Knock, during which Fr David Weakliam, O.Carm, preached on St.Thérèse.There was also Anointing of the Sick and the Solemn Blessing of Roses. Final Departure was on Sunday 10th May, from Rosslare to Lisieux in France.
