A native of the Antrim Glens, Oengus MacNissi was said to have been baptised by Patrick, who had been a slave here in his youth. Mac Nissi was instructed in the psalms by Patrick and built a hermitage in this district of Connor. Later he became bishop of his clan. He died in the early 6th century.
