St Killian was probably from the parish of Mullagh in the diocese of Kilmore (Co Cavan). With eleven companions he left Ireland and became known as the apostle of Thuringia and Eastern Franconia. Circa 688, he and two companions were put to death. In Wurtzburg, where his remains lie, there is a very strong devotion to him, as there is also in the Bavarian countryside.
