InformationSt. John of Damascus is also known as St. John Damascene. He was born of Christian parents in the latter part of the seventh century. St. John became a monk in the monastery of St. Sabbas. He is considered the last of the Greek Fathers and the first of the East to formulate a comprehensive synthesis of Christian Dogma. St. John defended the veneration of icons against the Emperor of Constantinople. He composed many hymns and preached many homilies about the Blessed Mother.
