Jesus is nailed to the cross.

Invocation
V. We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R. Because by Your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

" It was the third hour when they nailed Him to the cross." Mark 15: 25

Human language is totally inadequate to describe the pain and torture of crucifixion. Human flesh penetrated by nails, and sharp blows of the executioners? hammers report the tragedy, but cannot convey the anguish of the sufferer. These things were accepted willingly by Jesus as the most convincing demonstration of His love.

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, may the memory of your torture inspire us with a realisation of your love and fill us with a hatred of anything that could offend you.

I love You, Jesus; I love You above all things;
I repent with my whole heart of having offended You.
Never permit me to separate myself from You again.
Grant that I may love You always;
and then do with me what You will.
