For the sins of his own nation,
Saw him hang in desolation,
Till his spirit forth he sent.

Eighth Station
Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem.

Invocation
V. We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R. Because by Your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

"Turning to them he said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me but for yourselves and for your children" Luke 23: 28

In his own suffering and pain, Jesus was consoled by the sympathy of these women. Little did they know, as he knew, what suffering was in store for them and for their children when, less than thirty years later, the Roman army would invade the city and murder so many of the people living there.

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, in your own suffering you could sympathise with those women, as you foresaw their own future sorrow. When sorrow comes into our own lives, help us to turn to you with faith and confidence, and never allow us to
be unconcerned about the sufferings of others.

I love You, Jesus; I love You above all things;
I repent with my whole heart of having offended You.
Never permit me to separate myself from You again.
Grant that I may love You always;
and then do with me what You will.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father

Responsory
V. Have mercy on us, O Lord.
R. Have mercy on us.
