First Communion for St Louis School, Rathkenny
took place at the 11.30am Mass of Sunday, 20th May, 2018. 
in the Church of Sts Louis and Mary, Rathkenny.
The Celebrant was V. Rev. Fr. Gerry Boyle, PP.,
Concelebrant: Rev. Fr. Timothy Mejida CC Lobinstown. 

Jesus gives His Body 

“I am the living bread that has come down from heaven. If anyone eat of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is My Flesh for the life of the world.” 

The Jews argued with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His Flesh to eat?”
But Our Lord did not change the meaning of His words. Instead He said what He meant with even stronger words,

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of The Son of Man, and drink His Blood, you shall not have life in you. He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has life everlasting, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My Flesh is food indeed, and My Blood is drink indeed. He who eats My Flesh, and drinks My Blood, abides in Me and I in him.”

Short Reflection: 
The Rite of Baptism, a short time ago in the lives of these first communicants, commenced with two critical questions:

(1) What name do you give your child?

(2) What do you ask of God's Church for your child?

In response:

firstly, the parents gave their newborn infant the identifying Christian name
he/she will be known by, throughout life here on earth and into eternity.

Secondly, the parents declared their specific desire to have their child
brought into God's family, given a share in God's life,
and the opportunity and grace to reach eternal happiness in God's home in heaven.

This desire implied the acceptance of the responsibility of training
the child in the practice of the faith.

Today, First Communion Day, is another step in that training
and practice. May parents and child be blessed on the journey!
